Well, what can I say, it might be a little shock for you faithful readers, but yes, that's right, in the picture below you see a mustache!
Last year I skipped Halloween completely. And what a mistake it was! Last Friday, Bart and Bart went onto Lang Kwai Fong and had an truly amazing night in the most funky place to be during Halloween in Hong Kong!
Time has been rushing by since I'm back in Hong Kong. As I needed to do some saturdays overtime I haven't had really time to update the weblog. A little ashamed I still present you here the photos from our holiday in The Netherlands!

Whether it was a good decision or not, I've signed up for the Half Hong Kong Marathon Challenge for 2009. That's just 3 months from now... Last year I ran the 10k with Eva from which I still cherish some good memories.
This year I want to go a step further. Of course because I would like to see an improvement and get closer to the ultimate goal of running a full marathon. But mostly to beat Eva as she run last year 1 second faster than me! Although I would like to make a gentleman's gesture, Eva has been bragging about this significant difference for long enough now... :-P
So February 8th, 2009, that will be the day I'll write history. Eva and I are both running the Half Marathon, where she will do the regular run and I will do the challenge. A challenge it will be, as I will have to finish within 2 hours and 15 minutes! Last year I ran the 10k in 1 hour and 11 minutes, so it will be a close one! :-D
Let the running begin! :-)
[Dutch] Of het een goed idee was weet ik niet, maar ik heb me ingeschreven voor de halve Hong Kong Marathon Challenge 2009. Deze vindt plaats over ongeveer 3 maandjes. Het afgelopen jaar heb ik samen met Eva de 10km gerend, waar ik nog steeds mooie herinneringen aan heb.
Dit jaar is het echter tijd om een stapje verder gaan. Natuurlijk omdat ik een verbetering wil zien en om dichter bij het uiteindelijke doel van een volledige marathon te komen. Maar vooral om Eva te overwinnen omdat ze vorig jaar maar liefst 1 seconde sneller was dan ik! Hoewel dit voornamelijk als een vriendelijk gebaar was bedoeld, heeft Eva over dit wezenlijk verschil wel genoeg kunnen opscheppen... :-P
Dus, 8 februari 2009 wordt de dag dat ik geschiedenis schrijf. Eva en ik rennen beide de halve marathon, waarbij zij de algemene doet en ik de Challenge (uitdaging). Een uitdaging wordt het zeker, want ik moet de race binnen 2 uur en 15 minuten voltooien! Afgelopen jaar deed ik over de 10km 1 uur en 11 minuten, dus het gaat er om spannen! :-D
Laat het rennen van start gaan! :-)
It were a few but turbulent weeks in Europe for Eva and me. It's good to be back, but we already miss all the people we left behind. We had a great time and would like to thank everybody for their support, love and fun during our stay!
Tonight I will throw myself at the pictures we took and will look for finger massages in the Yellow Pages in preparation to the next weblog update. ;-)
[Dutch] Het waren slechts een paar weekjes in Europa, maar ze waren wel een hele belevenis voor Eva en mij. Het is fijn om terug te zijn, maar we missen nu al de mensen die we achter lieten. We hadden een geweldige tijd en willen daarom iedereen bedanken voor hun steun, liefde en plezier tijdens ons verblijf!
Vanavond duik ik in de foto's die we hebben genomen, en zoek alvast een vingermasseur op in de Yellow Pages als voorbereiding op de volgende weblog update. ;-)
It's been over a year, and I'm trilled to go back home. Tonight the time finally arrives to hop on to the airplane. This time Eva will join me in the seat next to me. We will have romantic long weekend in Paris before heading to The Netherlands. Hopefully I will have time to update this weblog during my stay, and otherwise the pictures and stories will follow eventually... ;-)
I've just finished my last Asian lunch, and I'm looking forward to put my teeth in a tasty crispy baguette with fromage! :-9 Back in the Netherlands I'll gain some weight on the beef soussages (frikandel) and other lekkernijen from the Low Lands.
Apart from food and holiday pleasures I'm foremost looking forward to renunite with my family and have good times with my friends. It will be a bit different this time, as it will feel more like a holiday rather than coming back, but we will have most definitely a wonderful time! :-)

Dutch: Het is meer dan een jaar geleden, en ik sta te springen om terug naar huis te gaan. Vanavond breekt die tijd dan eindelijk aan en spring ik het vliegtuig in. Dit keer zal Eva mij vergezellen in de stoel naast mij. We gaan een lang romantisch weekend in Parijs tegemoed voor we naar Nederland komen. Hopelijk lukt het me om tijdens het verblijf dit weblog nog een update te geven, en anders komen de kiekjes en verhalen vanzelf wel... ;-)
Ik heb zojuist mijn laatste Aziatische lunch op, en ik kijk er naar uit om mijn tanden in een knapperige baguette met fromage te zetten! :-9 Terug in Nederland kan ik mijn buikje spekken met frikandellen en andere lekkernijen van de lage landen.
Maar buiten het eten en vakantiepretjes kijk ik absoluut het meest uit om mijn familie te weerzien en mooie tijden te beleven met mijn vrienden. Het zal dit keer wat anders aanvoelen aangezien het meer een vakantie wordt in plaats van een terugkomst, maar we zullen zonder enige twijfel een geweldige tijd hebben! :-)

Don't be afraid, the reason why I couldn't update earlier is that I had some storm on my PC as well, it didn't start anymore. With a lost Saturday afternoon and Windows reinstalled, I can bring you the news...
Things went pretty smoothly. Although storm signal 9 was up for a long time, the weather on our side of the island was doable. That was until the eye of the storm passed Hong Kong, and winds suddenly appeared from the other direction hitting the east side of the island in the face. That scared the hell out of us, as we we're sitting close to the window at the study room. The window shook heavily with dirt hitting the window and a loud screaming noise gave both of us the creeps.
Now the sky has cleared up and as far we can see there is no cloud to detect. Our view is a brilliant clear sky with the evening sun shining nicely on the green mountain side. The rubbish on the street has been cleaned. As if nothing happened before we're up for a Saturday night out. :-)
Dutch: Ben maar niet bang, de reden dat ik niet eerder een update kon plaatsen was doordat het ook flink stormde op mijn PC, deze wilde namelijk niet meer starten. Na een verloren zaterdagmiddag en een nieuwe Windows installatie kan ik jullie het nieuws brengen...
Het ging eigenlijk erg soepeltjes. Hoewel het stormsignaal 9 lang actief was, was het weer aan onze kant van het eiland acceptabel. Totdat het oog van de storm ons passeerde en er plotseling rukwinden vanuit de andere richting ons aanvielen. We schrokken ons het hemd van het lijf, want we zaten vlak bij het raam in de studiekamer. Dat raam begon hevig te schudden en met schapend vuil langschurend en een schreeuwend lawaai van de wind. Brr, we hadden al onze haren overeind staan!
Nu is het prachtig helder weer met geen wolkje aan de lucht. Ons uitzicht is heerlijk helder en de avondzon geeft een mooie gouden gloed op de groene berghelling. De rotzooi op straat is ook al opgeruimd. Alsof er niets is gebeurd is zijn wij klaar voor een avondje uit. :-)
I just woke up, and both Eva and I rushed to the TV to see the warning signal. A huge disappointment fell on us when we still saw the T3 icon on the screen. This basically means we would have to go to work while knowing there will be a time of the day where we would need to abruptly stop and hurry back home.
Luckily the Hong Kong Observatory provides more information and I was satisfied with this passage in the warning bulletin of 6:45:
According to the present forecast track, Nuri will be
rather close to Hong Kong this afternoon and tonight with a
chance of direct hit to Hong Kong. The Observatory will
issue the Gale or Storm Signal No. 8 before 8 a.m. this
morning.
Things are still looking pretty normal. The sky has an overcast of clouds, but nothing unusual. However, the flags on the temple across the street wave firmly in the wind, and from past typhoons I know it's getting worse. We live between a mountain gap, and wind is pushed between our house and the mountain side, so I better not open any windows!

chance of direct hit to Hong Kong. The Observatory will
issue the Gale or Storm Signal No. 8 before 8 a.m. this
morning.
Hierin staat dat Nuri volgens de voorspellingen erg dicht bij Hong Kong komt tegen de middag en vanavond wel eens frontaal op Hong Kong kan inslaan. Het observatorium gaat daarom voor 8 uur 's ochtens waarschuwingsignaal 8 afgeven wat dus inhoud dat iedereen thuis moet blijven.
