Rockin' in Taipei

Very long time ago that I posted any action on this blog, so here is what I've been up to the last month:

- Partying in Bangkok with Bart & Adam (see Barts post)
- Exploring Taipei with the Americans and a Frenchman
- Gambling and rolling in Macau with the whole crew

More to come this month, as there is a budget China trip planned (Shenzhen and Guanzhou) this weekend, and next weekend the Hong Kong Rugby Sevens are up. Furthermore, I will visit my parents in Bali in the beginning of April.

So a lot more stories to come, but for now the Taipei story:

A few weeks ago, just when I decided to take it more easier with the partying and money spending, I got an email from a friend if I wanted to join on a trip to Taipei for the upcoming weekend. After some smart budgetting and money savings I decided to join. And I'm glad I did :). We had a great time up there... partied with midgets, saw the bruising nightlife of Taipei, been on the tallest building in the world (101 tower), and had one of the best meals (till now) since I've been in Asia! We even managed to take a museum trip to the History museum of Taipei.. which was very interesting (not really).. but anyway, we gave it a try.

A short photo-impression:

The whole crew!

They seriously had a HELLO KITTY gate at the airport!!

We finished almost 20 800ML bottles of beer with a Taiwanese drinking game our friends(also our tourguides;)) wanted to play (not to mention we played this game for only 1 hour:S)

The whole crew including our two Taiwanese friends who took us to the restaurant where I had the best dinner since I'm in Asia!

Our lovely lobster!!

Fishy fishy

The giant 101 tower

Very nice lunch! Where we had to crunch our own seeds prehistorical style ;)

First party night! Arrived at 11.30pm in Taipei and went straight for the clubs!

Jan Jaap van der Wal in Hong Kong

Last weekend I've been hinted by my colleague Hans about a Dutch comedian that was in town! Luckily he managed to get me a ticket, and last Monday we went to an Italian basement restaurant, hired by the Dutch society club.

It had been a while that I felt small, but surrounded by all those Dutch people it felt just like being back in The Netherlands! :-D At those times it's important that you remind yourself not to talk too freely about the people in your near surroundings, as they actually might understand what you're saying, haha.

With a bottle of Heineken at my hand, the show could start. Jan Jaap van der Wal did his homework well, as he had some nice things to comment on Hong Kong itself. Of course the far, far, far away Netherlands could not be omitted. Throughout the whole show it never got bored, and he knew how to diverse his show with things that make you think or with good accumulative jokes. Overall I felt that it was a harmonious medley of jokes, stories and a lot of laughter.

Last but not least, I should comment on the food that we had during the break. Frikandel Speciaal! Bitterballen! Plates full of it! I think that I will join this kind of event more from time to time, to have that Dutch feeling again. :-)

Dutch:

Back from Bangkok

Yes, it was great! Great to see Adam again and Bangkok itself was again a nice place to be.

Finally we did the things we should have done before, and these items are not anymore on my ToDo list:

  1. Visit the Chatuchak market.
  2. Find places with live music.
  3. Go for a real Thai Massage.
  4. Have a look at the Bangkok skyline from a bar at the top of a skyscraper.
  5. Eat Thai Noodles.
  6. Visit Khao San Road.
  7. Have lots of Singha beers.
I hope to post my pictures and videos soon, but to kill the time, have a look at Adam's blogpost of our visit.
